Drawing up an Artists Brief with Kate from the Arts Team

Meeting to agree the final Artist Brief October 2010

The sub-group members had a meeting with Kate Gascoigne from the Arts Team to talk about what should be included in the artists brief for producing the decorative bollards and the signposts. After looking at all the sub-group meeting minutes, the information from public consultations about the project and a discussion of everyone's ideas, the final brief included the following things:
  • The bollards or barriers need to be interesting objects for the community to enjoy as they pass by
  • The designs should incorporate elements of the industrial & manufacturing heritage of Darlington
  • Some designs could include nature and wildlife elements to reflect the green aspects of the area
  • The designs should include some raised elements for people of all ages and abilities to explore
  • The group would like the chosen artist to be working in the northern region if possible
  • The chosen artist will run 2 art workshops to include ideas from members of the local community

Community Spaces Grant Stage 1 approved

After Stage 1 of the Community Spaces funding application was approved in May 2009 the real hard work for the project had to start. The first job was to break down the overall project idea into much greater detail. Members of both Community Partnerships had regular meetings about their plans and ideas and a seperate project sub-group was formed.

Community Spaces appointed a project facilitator to work with the sub-group to prepare the Stage 2 of the funding application and the group met with him in early July to have a site visit and talk about what they hoped to achieve from their grant.

Working Together Works!

Welcome to the first posting of the Lascelles & Eastbourne Link Project.

Over the past 3 years, members of the Lascelles & Bank Top Community Partnerships have been working hard to improve their open spaces and develop new play facilities in both Eastbourne Park and on the Lascelles green, with great success. Now both groups are working together to raise the money through the Groundwork Community Spaces fund to develop the green link area between their parks into an attractive, well-lit pathway with artist designed bollards, signs and storytelling prompts for everyone to enjoy.

Last year the groups worked in partnership to put in a successful Stage 1 funding application and have been doing lots of local consultation about the plans and designs for the space with the community. They are now working with the funding facilitator to complete the second stage bid and a planning application for the project has now been submitted.
